So, you may not know that I am a Doctor Who fan. Of course, Matt Smith is my favorite Doctor of all time. I'm not sure how I feel about the new one. Anyways, my coworker and I participated in our community's annual Chalkwalk. It was alot of fun, but the weather conspired to almost wash away everything we did. Luckily, the rain held off and we were able to finish our Vincent Van Gogh/Doctor Who inspired chalk drawing. It isn't perfect since we had less time to finish than we had planned, but at least we got it done! Over the last couple of years we've learned some important lessons. It's good to have a plan (a gridded out drawing ready to go). A measuring tape, chalk line, hair spray (for setting the chalk) and tempra paint are your friends, and the more people working, the merrier. We recruited my 11 year old art student Sadie the help us out and she did wonderfully! My husband, even though he was feeling a bit nervous about painting, chipped in and did a great job too! In the end, people commented on how colorful and brilliant the flowers turned out. We pumped up the saturation in all the flowers. Vincent's rather muted color palette, although beautiful, didn't translate as well as we thought it would in pastels. We had a great time and ended up with a great result and very dirty hands, faces, and knees!
